What can my local community do?Communities

  • Raise energy efficiency awareness among their group and neighbour by putting articles in their newsletter and website.

  • Invite their local energy efficiency advisor to set up a stall at one of your events or celebrations.

  • Take energy efficiency training provided by your local Energy Efficiency Advice Centre (EEAC) or Energy Saving Trust (Café) to become a local resident energy efficiency expert.

  • Through working with your local EEAC offer residents free energy efficiency light bulbs and up to date information on energy tariffs and special offer schemes from utilities: like subsidised fridges and freezers for those in recent of benefits.

  • Campaign to encourage your landlord to make energy efficiency and combating fuel poverty a priority.

  • Run an energy efficiency survey on your estate, to find out if households are in fuel poverty and report back the findings to your landlord.

  • Lead by example, not leaving unnecessary lights and water urns on during meetings.

  • Why not celebrate energy saving week this year and make a pledge to reduce your community group's energy consumption by 20%.
