Living a healthy life goes hand in hand with being ‘green’ at home, in the community and at work. Green living can be healthy living and an excellent way to lose those extra pounds, improve your sense of well being and help the planet.

Did you know ???

  • Walking strengthens your heart, bones and muscles and helps control weight.

  • Eating five fruit and vegetables a day will protect you from heart disease and some cancers.

  • Eating foods rich in vitamin B (bananas, peas, beans, lentils and leafy greens) are vital for energy production and keeping the brain, nerves, blood and muscles functioning and skin, nails and hair healthy.

  • Bones continue to grow until your mid 20’s and need plenty of calcium to ensure they are healthy and strong. Good sources of calcium include, low and full fat cheeses, skimmed and full fat milk, yoghurt, spinach, okra, kidney and soya beans, peas, broccoli, cabbage, celery, dried apricots and figs.

  • Smoking kills 106,000 people each year in the UK, over 80% of all lung cancer deaths are caused by smoking.

  • One in four adults are obese, Obesity in 11 to 15 year olds for the period 1995 to 2004 increased from 14% to 24% for boys and from 15% to 26% for girls.
