Oak Meadow
Project name:

Green Living Road Show

Social Landlord’s name:
Devon & Cornwall Housing Association

Location:
South Molton, North Devon

Project aim:
To offer a wide range of green living advice and activities for social housing residents living in South Molton in North Devon.

What you have done:
North Devon Homes and Devon & Cornwall Housing arranged for community partners to put up stands and stalls on a DCH estate. The stands included one from the Primary Care Trust and with the support from local health workers and nurses they offered residents’ blood pressure checks, set up an infra red light in our mobile info point (caravan) and showed children how much bacteria was on their hands and why washing your hands before eating was a good idea. They gave advice on stopping smoking, eating healthier foods and Devon & Cornwall Housing brought along a big pack of active play equipment (skipping ropes, hula hoops, parachutes and giant plastic feet!) for the children to play with.

Which community partners were involved:
North Devon Primary Care Trust Devon Energy Efficiency Advice Centre – Affordable Warmth advisor Envision – Global Action Plan

Where did the money come from:
The community partners offered their input free of charge.

What worked well:
The activities for adults and children worked brilliantly especially the washing hands and looking at them under the Ultra Violet light – we had quite a queue for this.

What didn’t work so well:
We mailed out over 400 homes in South Molton but only the residents living on the doorstep of the estate took part.

What next:
This initiative is part of the Sustainable Living Project and we are running similar events on other estates.
