If you have a garden keep an
area of it wildlife friendly, create a wood
pile, let nettles grow to encourage
butterflies and create a wildlife pond to
offer a home to the local frogs and newts.
(Always keep young children away from ponds
as they can drown.)

Put food out for the birds in
winter.

Make or buy a bird or bat
box. Try and put the box somewhere out of
the reach of cats!

Buy cosmetics and products
not tested on animals.

Don’t use chemical pesticides
and weed killers in your garden. It may kill
the pests but it could also kill the
wildlife that eats those pests.

Take an evening class in
permaculture (a natural way of cultivating
land).

Volunteer to help a local
wildlife or conservation charity. Many local
projects advertise through their Volunteer
Centre or Bureau.

Join a national conservation
charity. They often offer subsidised
memberships for families on a low income and
send out newsletters and run membership
events.
