  • Working together to beat rising prices
No one can have failed to feel the impact of rising food and fuel prices especially those with young children or living on a low fixed income. Listed below are some ways of working with others to make your money go further, make new friends and reduce your environmental footprint.
    Travel
If you have to use the car to travel to work consider car sharing with a work colleague, neighbour or register with your local car share scheme, up to a third of all car mileage is accounted for by the drive to work.

  • Don't use your car for short journeys - these are most polluting - walk or cycle

  • Use public transport as much as possible.

  • Choose a fuel-efficient / environmentally friendly car. Look at converting it to LPG or Bio-diesel.

  • Turn off your engine when waiting in your car.

  • Join a car club.

  • Make sure that your tyres are inflated correctly - this can save you 5% on the cost of your petrol.

  • Take off your roof rack / remove heavy objects from the boot when not in use.

  • Avoid accelerating (or braking) sharply as this uses fuel more quickly.
